Overview

Our Greek language program offers an immersive, culturally rich learning experience through our group classes for adults that blends Greek grammar lectures and drills with active practice speaking, listening, reading and writing in Greek. Our Greek language instructors use structured drills, interactive exercises, and Greek cultural content like music, theater, and literature, along with fun activities such as games and role-play. This approach builds confidence and competence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Modern Greek. The Greek program covers all concepts according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Learning Greek as a Foreign Language, providing a complete foundation in Modern Greek language grammar over the course of four years.
Year 1: Beginner Greek (A1)

Novice Beginner I-II, & Beginner I-III.
Year 1 focuses on achieving A1 Greek (Beginner) competency, covering foundational survival skills in Modern Greek. Students master the Greek alphabet, pronunciation, and basic stress rules. Key grammar includes the Greek present tense of common verbs (είμαι, έχω, μένω, κάνω), the difference between the strong and weak personal pronouns, and the use of definite and indefinite articles across all four Greek grammatical cases (Nominative, Accusative, Genitive, Vocative). Students learn to form basic SVO (subject-verb-object) sentences in Greek, use the simple future with θα, and the simple past (Αόριστος) for common Greek verbs. Vocabulary acquisition centers on basic themes: self-introduction, family, professions, time, numbers, food, and giving simple directions in Greek. By the end of the year, students can handle very short, simple conversations, describe their daily routine, and talk about past events and future plans in Greek. This first year of Greek includes the following levels:
Novice Beginner I: Greek alphabet, pronunciation, and stress; essential verbs είμαι and έχω; present tense of common verbs; personal and possessive pronouns (including weak forms); definite and indefinite Greek articles; four grammatical cases; basic Greek noun genders; demonstratives and interrogatives. Vocabulary includes countries, numbers, time, professions, daily routine, transport, clothes, and colors in Greek. Students form basic SVO sentences and talk about personal information and likes in Greek.
Novice Beginner II: Introduction to Greek past continuous and simple past (aorist); irregular Greek verbs; modal verbs πρέπει and μπορώ; Greek subjunctive mood; simple future; verbs ending in -ομαι; demonstratives, Greek adverbs of place, adjectives, and gender agreement. Vocabulary focuses on food, housing, shopping, entertainment, and travel. Students order food, talk about past trips, and express future plans in Greek.
Beginner I: Review of core grammar with emphasis on communication. New topics include comparative and superlative adjectives, verbs ending in -άμαι, and aorist of regular and irregular verbs. Vocabulary covers leisure, holidays, and hotels. Students read short adapted texts and write extended sentences and short paragraphs.
Beginner II: Greek syntax development including adverbs, imperative forms, pronouns with imperatives, πολύς/πολλή/πολύ, adverb comparisons, conditionals, and object clauses. Vocabulary includes greetings, emotions, body parts, and health. Students practice expressing emotions, visiting a doctor, and describing symptoms.
Beginner III: Comprehensive review of beginner-level grammar with a strong focus on writing. Students learn to produce a coherent paragraph of approximately 120 words in Greek.
Year 2: Advanced Beginner Greek (A2)

Advanced Beginner I-V.
Year 2 aims for A2 Greek (Elementary) competency, expanding the ability to handle routine tasks and simple information exchange in Greek. The focus shifts to solidifying the Greek Simple Past (Αόριστος) and mastering the Greek Imperfect (Παρατατικός) to distinguish between completed and habitual past actions in Greek. Students learn the Greek passive voice for common verbs, practice with modal verbs (πρέπει να, μπορώ να), and expand the use of the Greek subjunctive mood (να) for wishes and purpose. Grammatical focus also includes the Greek genitive case for possession and the construction of basic conditional sentences (αν) in Greek. In this year, vocabulary broadens to cover detailed descriptions of people, health, communication technology, education, and expressing nuanced opinions, allowing students to write simple narratives, summarize short news stories, and make appointments or reservations in Greek. This second year of Greek includes the following levels:
Advanced Beginner I: Introduction to present perfect and past perfect tenses; expanded use of indefinite and demonstrative pronouns; feminine nouns ending in -ος. Vocabulary focuses on tourism, monuments, and landmarks. Speaking emphasizes argumentation through role-play, and writing includes narrating a memorable trip.
Advanced Beginner II: Complex noun endings for Greek masculine and feminine nouns; review of regular and irregular verbs; introduction to temporal clauses. Vocabulary centers on art and culture. Students express opinions about artistic and cultural works in Greek.
Advanced Beginner III: Revision of Greek grammar and syntax from previous levels with emphasis on spoken fluency and clear expression of opinions in Greek.
Advanced Beginner IV: Exposure to Greek articles, essays, literary excerpts, and reviews; phonetic phenomena (assimilation, synizesis); advanced passive voice; active–passive transformations; direct and indirect questions; article omission. Vocabulary includes technology, advertising, and culture. Students practice structured opinion-building in Greek.
Advanced Beginner V: Relative pronouns and clauses, result clauses, imperative revision, and Greek vocative case. Vocabulary focuses on ecology, recycling, and social relationships. Students argue and discuss environmental and social issues using appropriate structures in Greek.
Year 3: Intermediate Greek (B1)

Intermediate I-V.
Year 3 brings students to B1 Greek (Intermediate) competency, making the student an independent Greek language user capable of handling most situations encountered during travel and producing simple connected texts in Greek. Grammatical complexity increases with the full command of the Greek Passive Voice across tenses, the use of the Greek Future Perfect and Pluperfect, and the introduction of advanced Subjunctive forms in Greek. The core focus is on achieving cohesion and coherence through the use of a wide range of Greek conjunctions (cause/effect, contrast) and relative pronouns (ο οποίος). Vocabulary allows for expressing and justifying opinions on abstract topics like social issues, culture, and lifestyle, enabling the student to participate in debates, present structured arguments, and write detailed formal and personal letters in Greek. The third year of the course consists os the following levels:
Intermediate I: Revision of core grammar with focus on vowel deletion and advanced active/passive constructions. Vocabulary expands through texts on technology, advertising, and culture. Students express and justify opinions on personal-interest topics.
Intermediate II: Indirect questions, article omission, and phonetic phenomena such as assimilation. Vocabulary focuses on ecology, nature, and social relationships. Students read articles and reviews and discuss environmental and social issues.
Intermediate III: Grammar and syntax revision with emphasis on oral fluency and argumentation. Focus on relative pronouns and clauses. Writing includes structured argumentative paragraphs.
Intermediate IV: Result clauses and imperative revision. Students continue to practice speaking on social and environmental topics and write multi-paragraph texts.
Intermediate V: Full consolidation of B1 grammar. Speaking focuses on extended oral argumentation; reading includes literary excerpts; writing includes essay-style compositions (180–220 words).
Year 4: Upper Intermediate Greek (B2)

Upper Intermediate I-V.
Year 4 targets B2 level Greek (Upper Intermediate), allowing for effective argumentation, spontaneity, and high-level interaction with Greek native speakers. Grammar mastery is achieved through the detailed study of irregular Greek verbs, complex reported speech, and a full understanding of the Greek conditional mood for real and unreal conditions in the past and present. The emphasis is on stylistic variation and achieving a high level of cohesion using advanced linking devices (παρά το γεγονός ότι). Lexically, the student acquires Greek vocabulary for specialized fields (politics, law, economics) and abstract concepts (literature, philosophy). By the end of this year, the student can critique Greek media, write structured reports, and participate fluently and spontaneously in extended discussions on complex and unfamiliar subjects in Greek. The fourth year consists of the following levels:
Upper Intermediate I: Consolidation of complex verb forms and advanced nominal structures. Reading focuses on scientific and journalistic texts. Speaking emphasizes forming and explaining structured opinions.
Upper Intermediate II: Advanced syntax with subordinate clauses and connectors. Writing practice includes formal emails and reports.
Upper Intermediate III: Stylistic variation and register (formal vs. informal). Speaking includes debate-style argumentation, and writing focuses on discursive essays.
Upper Intermediate IV: Revision of advanced grammar and idiomatic expressions. Listening practice uses authentic materials (podcasts, news). Writing includes literary commentary, and speaking focuses on critical thinking.
Upper Intermediate V: Final consolidation toward C1 readiness. Advanced reading comprehension, long-form writing (250–300 words), and speaking practice aimed at fluency and accuracy.
