Modern Greek Beginner I

8 weeks of classes (one 1.5 hour session per week) - 12 hours of instruction, and additional homework review and support from instructors in between class sessions. This class is the next level after Novice Beginner II. This class is part of the 1st year of our Greek Program, which brings students to A1 Modern Greek CEFR competency. This class will review Greek grammar from the previous two levels. The emphasis will be on communicative competence, through frequent speaking and listening exercises. New grammar covered includes comparative and superlative forms of Greek adjectives, Greek verbs ending in -άμαι (φοβάμαι, λυπάμαι, κοιμάμαι), the Greek aorist tense of regular and irregular verbs (έρχομαι, παντρεύομαι, γεννιέμαι). Vocabulary covered includes entertainment and leisure activities, holidays, and hotels. Students will learn to read various text types (articles, diary entries, etc.), adapted to their level. Writing skills taught in this level include the production of extended sentences and short paragraphs.
