We are hiring part-time Russian Language Instructors to teach adult learners online (remote). Candidates must have at least 3 years of language teaching experience, native or near-native fluency in Russian, strong English skills, and a background in linguistics or pedagogy. Classes run in 8-week terms, with 1–3 sessions per week (1.5 hours each), scheduled on Pacific Time days/evenings. Organization Description: Halbuki Linguist Cooperative headquartered in San Francisco Bay Area is a group of linguists dedicated to offering language classes in less commonly taught languages to support language revitalization and linguistic justice with the overall goal of building a more multilingual world. Our cooperative currently provides classes in languages like Turkish, Russian, and Greek, taught by experts in these languages and members of our collective. We also offer language interpretation services. Proceeds from our classes and services support linguist livelihoods, endangered language revitalization, and linguistic justice initiatives.


Position Overview
Halbuki has been running Russian language classes and we are looking to hire a Russian language education professional to teach some of the courses. The ideal candidate will have a background in teaching Russian as a second language, language pedagogy, linguistics, and fluency in both Russian and English (knowledge of any other language is a plus).


Location: Remote (classes will be taught mostly in the day and evening times of the Pacific Time Zone (PT) (Coordinated Universal Time (UTC−08:00).


Work Schedule and role expectations.

This role will require leading approximately 1-3 group classes a week online on our Discord Server. Each lesson will be taught in 1.5 hour long sessions. The course is taught 8 weeks at a time, with a 1 week break in between each term, and a longer summer break (July and August). This position will be starting on the 29th of September. The instructor will be expected to provide all language teaching materials for the classes. The instructors will be responsible for responding to staff inquiries about class progress and scheduling, as well as student’s questions, in a timely manner. In addition to group classes, there is a possibility of private classes permitting teacher availability (private lessons will also be held in the 8 term cadence and will be held once a week in 1 hour long sessions).


Benefits and Compensation. We offer generous hourly pay for teaching hours, more than double that of competitors, but cannot offer other benefits at this time. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, interactive Russian language lessons to students of various proficiency levels.

  • Develop and adapt lesson plans to suit students’ needs, learning styles, and goals.

  • Assess students' progress through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

  • Incorporate cultural elements into lessons to deepen students’ understanding of Russian culture and traditions.

  • Create a supportive and motivating classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning.

  • Collaborate with the program director and other instructors to align teaching methods and curriculum goals and prepare for lessons.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Russian, Linguistics, Language, Education, or a related field preferred.

  • Language Proficiency: Native or near native fluency in Russian and working proficiency in English is mandatory.

  • Teaching Experience:

    • Highly Preferred: Experience teaching Russian as a foreign language.

    • Mandatory: At least three years of experience teaching a language.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Professional, responsible, timely, and respectful

  • For the children’s instructor role: experience working with children in any capacity highly preferred.
