Turkish, like many other languages, uses cases to indicate the role of nouns in a sentence. More precisely, verbs dictate what case a noun will be in, and the nouns take the corresponding case endings. These cases include the nominative (subject), accusative (direct object), dative (movement towards, beneficiary of an action), locative (static location), ablative (source, movement away from), and genitive (possessor). Each case is marked with a suffix, and vowel harmony and consonant changes apply depending on the word. For example if you see the cat, the word for cat (kedi), take the accusative case ending - (y)I, to become kediyi, because that is the case that the verb 'to see' (görmek) requires : Kediyi görüyorum.
