Biography
Born in Bursa, Turkey, Evren is a language instructor, translator, and historian with expertise in Turkish and Ottoman Turkish. He holds a B.A in Law School at Koç University and an M.A. in Historical Studies at Central European University. His research focuses on the cultural, religious, and intellectual history of the Ottoman Empire. He has extensive experience working with historical manuscripts and has published peer-reviewed research as well as translations in academic journals and grassroots platforms. He is a native speaker of Turkish and Turkish Sign Language with a near-native fluency in English, and in addition to Ottoman Turkish, has a reading knowledge of several other languages. As a language instructor, he brings historically informed, comparative, and student-centered approach to teaching. After more than a decade of living and working across borders, Evren is now laying new roots in Pittsburgh.
