Halbuki language classes are taught in 5 terms over the course of a year, four 8-week terms starting in the fall, and one 6-week term in the summer. All times are shown in PST (Los Angeles time).

Overview

Our language program offers an immersive, culturally rich learning experience that blends grammar with active practice. Instructors use structured drills, interactive exercises, and cultural content like music, theater, and literature, along with fun activities such as games and role-play. This approach builds confidence and competence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Our 8-week Greek language group classes cover Modern Greek grammar fundamentals, writing and reading practice, pronunciation and conversation drills, key vocabulary, taught by experts of Greek as a second language pedagogy. Classes are led by an instructor in real-time online on our online platform, allowing for the same live interaction as in-person classes. Our platform is designed to allow students to engage with each other and the instructor and to practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking the Greek Language.

Private

Our private Greek classes are fully tailored to meet each student's unique needs and learning goals, whether they are absolute beginners, heritage speakers, or advanced learners seeking specialized vocabulary. For heritage speakers, we emphasize grammar fundamentals and writing skills, approaching the language from a heritage speaker’s perspective to bridge any gaps in formal grammar and literacy. For students with specific professional goals, such as musicians working with on Greek songs or academics researching a field that required Greek language knowledge, we customize lessons to cover technical vocabulary and practical phrases, enabling them to communicate confidently in relevant contexts. Private lessons are adaptable, allowing students to focus on areas of interest.

Each member of our teaching staff brings a unique blend of academic expertise, real-world experience, and a passion for sharing the Greek language and culture. Whether you're just beginning your journey or looking to deepen your fluency, our instructors are here to support and guide you every step of the way.

Orestis

Lead Greek Instructor

Orestis is a native Greek with over a decade of experience teaching Greek as a second language, both in the US and in Greece. He began his teaching journey in the US, working at the Greek School of the Annunciation in Sacramento and as a Greek Interpreter for several agencies. Now based in Athens, he continues to offer personalized instruction rooted in student needs and learning styles. Fluent in English and French, Orestis is also the co-owner of a publishing house specializing in philosophy and literature. Outside of teaching, he is a professional musician with a focus on Rebetica, and has written and performed songs for TV, radio, and live audiences.

Maria

Greek Instructor

Maria holds a BSc in Greek Linguistics from the University of the Peloponnese, where she also completed an internship teaching Greek at various levels (A1, B2, C1, and C2) at Gymnazium na Vitezne plani in Prague. She is currently completing her MSc in “Analysis and Teaching of First and Second/Foreign Language” at the University of the Aegean, where she also received a State Scholarship (IKY). Maria has enhanced her teaching expertise through a certified seminar in special and inclusive education. She brings a solid academic foundation, international teaching experience, and a strong commitment to inclusive language education.
