Halbuki is a linguist-run cooperative dedicated to high-quality, community-rooted language education—especially for less commonly taught languages. We support language learners, linguists, and language revitalization efforts by offering small-group classes and cultural programming around the world.
We are expanding our offerings and are seeking an Estonian Language Instructor to join our teaching collective.

Position Overview
We are seeking to hire an Estonian language teacher to round out our team for online classes. The ideal candidate will have a background in language pedagogy, linguistics, and fluency in both Estonian and English, and experience teaching Estonian as second language to Adults. The instructors needs to be available to teach within the range of 2:30PM to 7:00PM US West Coast Time on week days.
Work Schedule and Role Expectations
This role will require leading approximately 1–2 group classes per week in person. Each class will be 1 to 1.5 hours long. The course is taught in 8-week terms, with a one-week break in between each term and a longer summer break (July and August). The position is set to begin January. The instructor will be responsible for creating appropriate teaching materials, incorporating both language and cultural elements into lessons, and ensuring a fun, supportive, and motivating learning environment. In addition to group classes, there may be opportunities to teach private lessons depending on instructor availability.

We offer generous hourly pay for teaching hours—more than double that of most competitors—though we are not able to provide other benefits at this time. The Halbuki team is staffed with highly experienced linguists and education professionals, and this role will provide valuable career experience, as well as the opportunity to join an inspiring linguist cooperative with talented and passionate peers.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach beginner to intermediate level Estonian language classes (online, 6–12 students per class).
Develop lesson plans that emphasize communication, cultural context, and student engagement.
Provide supportive, learner-centered feedback and guidance.
Collaborate with Halbuki’s curriculum team and participate in occasional instructor meetings.
Qualifications:
Native or near-native proficiency in Estonian; strong command of English (additional languages such as Turkish or other bilingual backgrounds are welcome).
Prior teaching experience (formal or informal) OR the ability to explain linguistic concepts clearly and patiently.
Passion for Estonian language, culture, and community-centered pedagogy.
Ability to commit to a weekly class schedule for at least one term (8 weeks).
Preferred but not required:
Experience teaching online or leading small group instruction.
Interest in collaborative curriculum building.
A higher education degree in linguistics.
