Service Description

This class will give students an introduction to cinema in Turkey through the study of films, carefully curated for their cultural significance, led by renown Turkish film critic and academic Tuğçe Madayanti Şen. Students will learn film appreciation and analysis, and participate in weekly discussion about the films (access to which is included in the class) in Turkish. Specifically, the class format will consist of students watching one film per week on their own time, and discussing the film in Turkish during class in a group format. The teacher will provide a relevant vocabulary list prior to each lesson to help students prepare for the discussion, as well as discussion questions. The teacher will moderate the discussion to help students achieve an analysis of the movie, all while practicing Turkish speaking skills. Students are expected to have an intermediate level of Turkish in order to be able to participate in the class discussions. This is a great opportunity to improve Turkish fluency and argumentation & listening skills through a fun format, as well as improve Turkish cultural competency and film knowledge. This course includes 6 weeks of classes (one 1 hour session per week) - a total of 6 hours of instruction, and additional homework review and support from instructors in between class sessions. This class can be attended online from anywhere around the world via our Learning Platform with Video. The number of students in the class is between 3 and 10.
